FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Pat Corcoran Wins 2004 Parmele Award
MINNEAPOLIS—This year’s Howard Parmele Award — the highest honor in the specialty graphic imaging industry — has been conferred on Pat Corcoran in recognition of his lifetime of contributions and achievements.
Announcement of the Specialty Graphic Imaging Association’s 2004 Parmele Award recipient was made at the Association's 56th Annual Convention and Exposition, held October 6-9 at the Minneapolis Convention Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA.
Since 1972 Corcoran has been active in SGIA, serving throughout the Association’s volunteer structure—including being Chairman of its Board of Directors. And, as a founder of the Screen Printing Technical Foundation, he was personally responsible for raising $750,000 for the Foundation.
“But throughout his career, Corcoran’s generosity and leadership have gone well beyond time, money … and even beyond this Association,” emphasizes Mike Robertson, SGIA’s President & CEO. “His approach to the imaging business has been to foster innovation—including beta testing many of the technical innovations and equipment designs that now are commonplace.”
Just as importantly, Corcoran has been quick to share his technological understanding generously with others in the industry. Sometimes it’s in one-on-one settings; other times, it’s more formally: as an educator at SGIA conference sessions or workshops in Mexico, Japan and Australia.
“Corcoran also opens his doors to those who want to understand more about specialty imaging,” adds Robertson. “He welcomes SGIA groups for tours and seminars, encourages local youth and their interest in specialty imaging, and participates in international employee exchange programs.”
Given his lifetime contributions to the Association and its industry, it’s not surprising that Corcoran already has been honored by SGIA. In the 1980s, he received both the Magnus and Key Awards.
Initiated in 1955, the Howard Parmele Award is named for one of SGIA's founders and typically given to one person each year. The recipient must be someone who has made outstanding contributions to the specialty graphic and imaging industry over an extended period of time.
Founded in 1948, SGIA is Leading a New Generation of Imaging Professionals — “Specialty imaging” comprises digital imaging, screen printing and the many other imaging technologies SGIA members use, including those they’ll tap in the future. These are the imaging processes and technologies employed to create new products and to enhance existing products including point-of-purchase displays, signs, advertisements, garments, containers and vehicles.
