Choreographed Fabric Dancing Banners™ Win First Place for TechnoFrolics

SOMERVILLE, Mass. -- TechnoFrolics' computer-controlled fabric Dancing Banners™ win first place in the Banners / Soft-Sided-Signs category of the 2004 International Sign Contest.

The winning troupe of six sixteen-foot tall Dancing Banners™ were commissioned by Discovery Communications to perform at CTAM '02, a cable television technology conference, held in Boston, Massachusetts. Imprinted with the Discovery Communications logo, the green and blue banners offered lifelike performances, with motions ranging from sensuous waves to spinning blurs of color to sudden "freezes" in precisely planned poses.

The award ceremony for the recent contest, jointly sponsored by the International Sign Association and Signs of the Times magazine, was held during the 58th International Sign Exposition held in Orlando, Florida, April 14-17, 2004.

The Dancing Banners™, optionally printed with client imagery and ranging in size from "tabletop" to over 25 feet tall, employ computer-controlled servo motors and a rich choreography environment to enable their intricate live dances. "Upcoming versions will have full DMX control, the protocol used to run moving lights at rock concerts, thus enabling stage engineers to choreograph banner performances in tight synchrony with lighting and music," says David Durlach, TechnoFrolics Founder and Director.

TechnoFrolics specializes in combining technology, art, the natural sciences, and play.
